SolAranja Trio
SolAranja Bio
SolAranja is a Chicago based trio comprised of violin, Elisabeth Johnson, accordion, Robert Cruz, and bass, Joey Spilberg. Its members have been performing professionally together among each others various projects for almost 7 years in a variety of different musical styles and settings. A deep love of world music brought this group together collaborating a back round knowledge of

gypsy, Arabic and Latin grooves to be infused in the traditional Brazilian choro, samba, and tango. The band’s concept was inspired by the Modernist movement in 1920’s Brazil called Anthropofagia; a spirit of “cultural cannibalism.” This concept borrowed ideas from other cultural trends and music and reworks them into Brazilian terms.
